The Stellite alloy of Deloro Stellite is an excellent alloy that has wear-resistant and heat-resistant. The Stellite-made parts are used for the engine of jet plane and racing car such in a severe environment. By using this material the durability of the engine has been improved. The reliability of the Stellite alloy has been proven also in the architecture. The Stellite-made parts are used where an important joint parts of the glass pyramid frame of Le Grand Louvre in Paris. Scissors are tool that two steel blades are rubbed and cuts hair. We, MIZUTANI think tough and durable Stellite alloy is the highest material for scissors. Moreover, the Stellite alloy an original idea is different from usual steel, is called a cobalt-base alloy. And about the half of the element is made of the rare metal cobalt. The material costs more than 30 times of the regular cutlery steels. However, when we take into consideration of overall cost for the users such as durability and longevity of the cutting performance, we have decided that the Stellite alloy is very reasonable to use. After the first STELLITE alloy is debuted into the market, the one of the reasons to win overwhelming endorsement is “the marvelous long use”. As for the Stellite alloy, it is made more than the half of the element of cobalt, so strength and durability are greatly different compared with usual scissors. The Nano Powder Metal, with blades at a 30–35° sharp cutting edge angle (image, above right), makes it easy to cut into hair. Many inexpensive or conventional haircutting scissors use blades featuring a less-sharp cutting edge angle, between 40° and 80°, with a greater curvature radius of the edge. These scissors, in addition to a worn and less-tough cutting edge (image, above left), cause the blades to become blunt.

POWDER DAMASCUS ALLOY

The mysterious pattern woven from the tough steel.

“DAMA” comprising two different types of minute powder ( Powder Damascus Alloy; patented manufacturing method). Everything including the inside of the blade is constructed from super high density micro powder metal. Using this special material makes the scissors sharper and stronger. Furthermore, even though our special quenching technology achieved equal hardness in the two different materials used in the blades, the difference in their constituents maintains their bite on the hair even after long-term use. The eddying pattern of “DAMA” is not simply decorative. It is not the result of printing or taping together either. This clear pattern appears—even on the edge and reverse side of the blade—as a result of our special processing. This provides undeniable proof that all of the components including the insides of the blades are made from the same steel.

RARE WOOD

The warmth of natural wood

I want to work every day with the warm feel of wood… The SWORD +wood realizes such a wish. These scissors will give you the feel of a strong cutting touch while retaining a sense of softness in their handing. In order to obtain the strength to withstand extended use, we use a three-layer sandwich structure-sandwiching quenched steel within natural wood outer layers. Because we want these scissors to be used daily until the end of time, we pursued strength beyond what is normally required and ended up developing a pair of gentle yet tough scissors consisting of more than 20 parts.

Light and strong, SWORD + carbon

We have used carbon fiber, which is attracting attention as the material used in the construction of airplanes due to its strength and lightness. The specific gravity of carbon is only about half that of titanium, which is considered a light metal. In order to satisfy the need for both lightness and strength, we asked a carbon manufacturer that supplies the aerospace industry to manufacture this model according to our requirements, specifying the direction of the carbon fiber and the knitting methods. In addition, the beauty of these scissors results from our particularity about the product itself, rather than its appearance. We use SWORD blades, so the charm of this product lies not only in its lightness but also its quality cutting touch.
