The Journey of Your Mizutani Scissors

Good Things Take Time. Great Things Take Patience.
When you order Mizutani scissors, the process is intentionally unhurried. Each pair is made step by step by craftspeople who work with steel every day, following methods that value precision over speed.
Below is an overview of how that process unfolds and what to expect as your scissors make their way to you.
The Roadmap: Your Order Status Explained
Phase 1: Order Confirmation & Queue
Status: Queued in Japan
Timeline: Immediate
We’ve received your order and sent your specifications directly to the Mizutani workshop in Chiba, Japan. Your request is now in the production queue while materials are allocated for your pair.
What you need to do: Nothing. Your order is officially in the system.
Phase 2: Manufacturing (The “Quiet” Period)
Status: Forging & Assembly
Timeline: Weeks 1–5 (approximate)
This is the longest and usually the quietest phase. While it may feel like nothing is happening, this is where the most important work takes place.
The process:
The steel is heated, forged, tempered, and assembled by hand. Once the blades are paired together, they remain matched for the life of the scissors.
A note on communication:
You likely won’t hear from us during this phase. Silence is good news, it means the focus is on the steel, not email updates.
Phase 3: Quality Control & Import
Status: Crossing the Ocean
Timeline: Weeks 6-10
Your scissors have completed manufacturing and are en route to our headquarters in Canada.
The Mizutani check:
Once they arrive, we inspect blade geometry, test tension, and confirm overall balance before releasing them for final preparation.
Notification:
You’ll receive an email as soon as the shipment clears customs.
Phase 4: Final Polish & Delivery
Status: On Its Way to You
Timeline: Final days
Your scissors receive a final polish, are placed into their official case, and your tracking number is generated. The wait is almost over.
The way you cut is about to change.
Occasionally, sooner:
While custom orders follow the full production timeline noted on the website, some non-custom models may be available sooner and ship within 2–5 weeks. If this applies to your order, you’ll hear from us as soon as it’s confirmed.
Frequently Asked Questions
“I haven’t received an email in a few weeks. Should I be worried?”
Not at all. We’re intentional about communication and only reach out when there is meaningful progress. If you haven’t heard from us, your scissors are still in the manufacturing phase. You’ll hear from us the moment they arrive in Canada.
“Why does the process take several weeks?”
Precision craftsmanship cannot be rushed. Unlike mass-produced tools, Mizutani scissors are hand-finished. Steel must cool naturally and be worked carefully to maintain performance and longevity. We refuse to cut corners.
“Can the process be expedited?”
Manufacturing cannot be expedited. However, once your scissors enter the final delivery phase, shipping options may be available. Trust us , the wait is worth it.
